I've always wanted to watch the Indiana Jones films because they're iconic and classic films and they are classics for a reason! I've seen the most recent film from 2008 before but hadn't seen the others. When I saw that they were all being shown on BBC1 on Saturday evenings I decided to watch them all.
Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)
This is a good start to a franchise and I can see why people love these films so much! This film is set in 1936 and Indiana Jones (Indy) is an Archaelogist Professor who searches for ancient artifacts all over the world in his spare time. In this film he goes up against a group of Nazis who are looking for the Ark of the Covenant. This film is so fabulous with the music and action. You can see why this film is still so popular and loved today!
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984)
This film was definitely my favourite as it was so dark and not what I would expect. This film is a prequel and is set in 1935. The storyline is Indy crossing some Chinese gangsters and in the midst taking a woman with him on his adventures. There's also a young Chinese boy that comes along with them. After escaping and landing in India Indy is asked by a small village to find a mystical stone and the village's children from a cult. This is definitely the best of the collection, the story line is so interesting and there's a lot of elements that you wouldn't expect from a Indiana Jones film. Although, I did find the female lead annoying in this film compared to the others.
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989)
This film wasn't as violent as the previous films but the story line made up for the lack of action. This film explains the reason why Indy has become an archaeologist which is a fun opening scene! The third film is a sequel to the first and is based in 1938 where Indy's father has been getting closer to finding the Holy Grail, which he has been searching for all his life. He gets too close and gets kidnapped by Nazi's in order to make him help them find the Holy Grail. Indy starts to look for his father and winds up finding him and together they try to find the Holy Grail without letting the Nazi's get their hands on it. This film has a fabulous scene towards the end where Indy has to pass some tests in order to reach the Holy Grail. I loved the dynamic of father and son in this film although Sean Connery's voice can get a little irritating.
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008)
I've seen this film a few times before watching it again after seeing all the other films in the franchise. Rather than being set in the 1930's, this film is set in the 1950's and in the first opening scenes there are various references to the time such as The Roswell Incident and a Nuclear bomb. I liked how this story line focused on something that has a lot of mystery surrounding it as it explains The Roswell Incident and the other aliens that came along and created a underground world. They posessed alot of power that the Russians want access to. Indy is contacted by a young guy whose mother knew him once. Without giving too much away there's a good little twist there. This film is slated and has not done as well as the others in the franchise but I love it and think it fits quite nicely along with the other films.
