March Movies

Well this is abit late but still, here it is :)
Hopefully it will be worth the wait!

Calvary
This film was very strange, but I enjoyed it! The film is based on a priest who is told, in confession, that he is going to be murdered in a week. He knows who it is and accepts his fate. The film focuses on his last week of life and how he interacts with his daughter and his parishioners. I enjoyed this film and would recommend it but not sure if I would watch again!

Think like a man
I decided to watch this film as I did a gender module at University last term and I wanted something to watch while I was doing work. I really enjoyed this film, it wasn't what I expected! The film centres around a group of guys that are all different stereotypes. They all meet women who are reading a book 'Think like a man' that gives them dating tips and how to keep their man. These men do not realise they are having this book used on them but when they do, they keep it secret and chaos ensues. This film was pretty much the usual rom-com but I enjoyed it and would recommend!

We bought a zoo
I watched this movie on a 5 hour journey home and I must say it is quite possibly one of my favourite films. We Bought A Zoo is based on the true story of a family buying Dartmoor Zoo and turning it around into a fabulous zoo! The film is based in America rather than the UK but it was a very enjoyable film! The children are very cute in it and the storyline is very sweet and it was definitely a feel good film and left me feeling happy!

Rent

This is a musical that I have wanted to watch for a while! I love musicals and love some of the songs in this film and decided to finally watch it! The film is quite dark with the topics such as HIV and Aids and drugs. It focuses on a group of friends in a year of their life filmed by their friend. This film was quite hard hitting and sad at times but it worked effectively and left you thinking. Although it was sad, it was also happy as these people had hard lives but still smiled and enjoyed life! I definitely recommend this film, even if you don't like musicals!

The Island
I love sci-fi/ futuristic films so I had high hopes for this film! This film focuses on a man and woman who live with others in a facility as the last surviving humans. Frequently there are lotteries and someone is chosen to go to the island and start a new life. However, Lincoln Sux-Echo (Ewan McGregor) has visions and believes that the facility is not all as it seems and sets out to explore! This film was quite good, although it wasn't as good as I expected. At times I felt it was a bit predictable but I still enjoyed it and would recommend if you like this style of film.

Muppets most wanted
The first muppets film is fabulous and I will watch it over and over again forever!! With the all-star cast I had very high expectations but I was abit disappointed! It was nowhere near as good as the first and overall it just wasn't that good a movie with the cast it had! They peaked too soon with the first film and couldn't follow it up. I still enjoyed the film and will probably watch it again, just because I love the muppets :D

Gangster squad
I LOVE this film! I think this was my favourite film of March and could quite possibly be in my top 10 films! This was loosely based on the true story of the gangster Mickey Cohen in the 1940's. A police officer decides to go against Cohen and creates a 'gangster squad' to take down Cohen and his crew. This film was so good! It was just a really good storyline and there was lots of gore, which is always a good element of the film :) I think everyone should watch this film (especially for the added bonus of Ryan Gosling)

 Lucky Number Slevin
This film is one of my housemate's favourite film and she strongly recommended it so I decided to give it a go! I really enjoyed this film! It has an amazing cast and they make the film so much better! Its based on a guy who is mistaken for someone else and is questioned by the two men who control the city. I don't want to give too much away as this film has a few twists that aren't expected but it is such a good film, I really liked it!

So, that's the films of March! Hopefully I won't be so late with April but uni work is slowly taking over my life!

Chelsey :) x
