The British Tag :)

I have been tagged by Gemma to do the British tag, so here goes!

How many cups of tea do you drink daily?
Hmmm, probably 3/4 but when I am busy doing uni work its about 5/6

Favourite biscuit for dunking?
This definitely has to be the good old Chocolate Hobnob! As Peter Kay once said, they are the Royal Marines of the biscuit world!

Favourite part of a roast?
Overall I am not that big a fan of roasts, I have to be in the right mood but my favourite part is definitely the stuffing!!

Favourite British word?
Probably 'bloody', it can be used in lots of ways which makes it fun! 'Bloody hell!'

Favourite British phrase or saying?
I would say this is probably 'arse over tit'. It's used when someone falls over or trips up and they literally roll over

Favourite Quintessentially British Past time?
This would have to be baking, I do a lot of baking when I am home. Also, watching the classics such as Doctor Who and the Great British Bake Off

Name of my own pub?
If I owned a pub, I would probably call it 'The Red Lion' because you cannot go anywhere in this country without seeing a pub called 'The Red Lion' and so I feel I would be a part of the culture!

Favourite Sweet?
My favourite sweet definitely has to be fudge, I love it so much!

Favourite shop or restaurant?
One of my favourite shops is Whittards of Chelsea. This shop is pretty much a Tea lovers heaven, they sell teapots, teacups, all the tea you can imagine and the most perfect White Hot Chocolate I have ever tasted!

Number 1 British person?
The number 1 British person for me right now, has to be Prince George. He is the cutest little guy ever and he has proper chubby cheeks :)

British song in my head at the moment?

I tag all the British people reading this blog!

Films of January 2015

So,
in a previous blog I mentioned that I plan to watch 22 new films this year, and as it is coming to the end of January, I thought I would share with you the films I have watched for the first time!

The three films I have seen at the cinema this month are The Theory of Everything, Into The Woods (see previous blogs) and Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb. At home, I have watched The Sitter, Jumper and Johnny English Reborn. I will give a brief review of what I thought of each film :)

The Sitter (2011)
This film features Jonah Hill as a guy who is desperate to please a girl, so much so that when he is babysitting 3 dysfunctional children he takes them along with him to pick up some drugs for his 'girlfriend'. Along the way they obviously get in trouble. This film was funny, but not as funny as I expected from Jonah Hill. The 3 children were very funny, as the one is scared  of everything, the young girl wears stacks of makeup and the adopted child places bombs in toilets. Overall, it was a funny film but I don't think i'll be watching again.

Jumper (2008)
I really enjoyed this film! Jumper focuses on a boy who discovers that he can instantly transport himself to anywhere he can imagine. As a teenager, he robs a bank with his abilities and starts a chain reaction where he becomes the target of a man's hatred and determination to capture these 'jumpers'. There is also a love story element to this film, with the jumper and his childhood sweetheart. This film was very original in its ideas and, I felt, a really interesting story line with a brilliant cast! I would definitely recommend this film if you enjoy scifi.

Johnny English Reborn (2011)
The first Johnny English film is one of my favourite films so when I heard there was a second film coming out I was excited to watch it, so I don't really know why it's took me so long to watch it! Johnny English is a spoof of James Bond. After an incident in Mozambique, English retires to a Tibetan Monastery where he is, eventually, pulled out to work for MI-7 again in solving a case where he is requested. This film is a very silly film, with slapstick comedy amongst other things but it is a feel good film that I found quite funny, however, it was not as good as the first which is usually the case with sequels. I would recommend this film if you like the first, or want to watch something lighthearted.

Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb (2014)
I am a huge fan of the Night at the Museum franchise and was sad to hear that this film would be the last. This film was the perfect ending and the perfect legacy for Robin Williams! This film was just as funny as the other films in the series. It was also based in London, which was exciting to see all the familiar places and museums in the franchise that I love. The ending (no spoilers) was the perfect ending for such a fabulous man as Robin Williams, it was bittersweet and heartwarming. I would definitely recommend this film and will definitely be buying this film when it comes out on DVD!

So that's the films of January, lets see what films i'll watch in February!

The Theory of Everything Review (No Spoilers)

The second week of visiting Orange Wednesday and this time we went to see The Theory of Everything.

The film is based on the novel written by Jane Hawking, exploring her life when married to Stephen Hawking, from when they were students together to his diagnosis of Motor Neuron Disease and his success in physics.
Stephen Hawking was 21 when diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease and given a life expectancy of 2 years. Watching this film as a 21 year old, I found it quite moving to think at the same age he was given a death sentence.
It is inspirational to see the journey of Stephen Hawking as he defied all odds and is still alive at 72.

However, this movie was essentially a love story between Stephen and Jane. It was a very cute film, seeing the daily struggles of not only Stephen but also Jane, as she cared for him but their love for each other was still strong.
Seeing Eddie Redmayne portray the degeneration of Stephen Hawking to someone who cannot speak, walk or move was truly moving. You do not think of the man Hawking once was, but just as a scientist sat in a wheelchair who talks through a machine. Watching the decline, even through an actor, was inspiring and gave me a greater respect for Hawking and others with Motor Neuron Disease.
Hawking even said himself that when he watched this film he, at times, thought it was himself on screen. He also shed a tear when he saw the film. If that is not enough to make you see the film, then I don't know what is!

I strongly recommend this film to all.
Here is the trailer, if you are not familiar with this film:

22 New Films of 2015

2015 is my 22nd year on this planet so I've decided to set myself a challenge to watch at least 22 new movies, that I have never seen before.
I think the main films I will watch will be coming out in cinemas this year, but also, I want to watch films that I have always wanted to see but haven't got round to, or films that have been recommended to me by friends or family.

One new film I have seen this year is Into The Woods, but I also have other ideas for films that I want to see. If anyone has any suggestions or recommendations of their favourite films, feel free to let me know and I will add them to the list :)

Into The Woods Review (No Spoilers)

Orange Wednesdays ends in February so, every Wednesday from now until it ends I am determined to go and see all the films I want to see that are out. Films play a big part in my life and I watch alot of films and try to attend the cinema as much as I can.
As a massive Disney fan and a lover of musicals, I wanted to see Into The Woods as soon as I saw the trailer. With an all-star cast of James Corden, Emily Blunt and Chris Pine to name a few, it sounded like the perfect combination to make a fabulous film.
However, I was quite disappointed when I left the cinema. It was nothing like I expected it to be. The music was all the same tune but different words so it was hard to distinguish between songs and they didn't appear to stick in your head so you were singing as you left.
The film appeared to be advertised as 'what happens after Happily Ever After' for Cinderella, Jack from the Beanstalk, Rapunzel and Little Red Riding Hood with the original story of the Baker and his wife carrying out a quest for the Witch in order to remove the curse and have a child. However, the film seemed to focus on the retelling, of the original stories of these well known fairy tales and it seemed, only the last 40 minutes focused on what happened after 'Happily Ever After'.
The acting was phenomenal, and made me feel quite proud that it was filmed in the UK but also featured heavily, British actors.

Here is the trailer for anyone who is not familiar with the film:

Not That Kind of Girl Review

Girls is one of my favourite shows on TV so when I discovered Lena Dunham, the writer of Girls, had wrote a book it was the first thing on my Christmas list! Santa was good and bought it for me :)
So I started to read it boxing day and I couldn't put it down

The book is an autobiography mixed with advice and help and lessons learned from her life. I read it literally in two days, and I loved it.

She discusses love, childhood, university and life after university such as, work. As a final year student nearing the end of university I found this book helpful and reassuring knowing that it's okay to leave university not knowing what the next step on your journey is.

One chapter focused on her fixation with death. I found this to be something I could strongly relate to. As a child I used to have a recurring dream of all my family dying and even now, I find I think about death alot and what it would mean for me and my family and friends. Knowing that someone else in the world seemed to think the same way as me was very reassuring and made me feel slightly better about the way I feel.

Other sections of her book about university and her childhood was very relatable and I would recommend this book to anyone who is unsure about their next step in life. It's reassuring to know we're all confused :)
