So,
in a previous blog I mentioned that I plan to watch 22 new films this year, and as it is coming to the end of January, I thought I would share with you the films I have watched for the first time!
The three films I have seen at the cinema this month are The Theory of Everything, Into The Woods (see previous blogs) and Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb. At home, I have watched The Sitter, Jumper and Johnny English Reborn. I will give a brief review of what I thought of each film :)
The Sitter (2011)
This film features Jonah Hill as a guy who is desperate to please a girl, so much so that when he is babysitting 3 dysfunctional children he takes them along with him to pick up some drugs for his 'girlfriend'. Along the way they obviously get in trouble. This film was funny, but not as funny as I expected from Jonah Hill. The 3 children were very funny, as the one is scared of everything, the young girl wears stacks of makeup and the adopted child places bombs in toilets. Overall, it was a funny film but I don't think i'll be watching again.
Jumper (2008)
I really enjoyed this film! Jumper focuses on a boy who discovers that he can instantly transport himself to anywhere he can imagine. As a teenager, he robs a bank with his abilities and starts a chain reaction where he becomes the target of a man's hatred and determination to capture these 'jumpers'. There is also a love story element to this film, with the jumper and his childhood sweetheart. This film was very original in its ideas and, I felt, a really interesting story line with a brilliant cast! I would definitely recommend this film if you enjoy scifi.
Johnny English Reborn (2011)
The first Johnny English film is one of my favourite films so when I heard there was a second film coming out I was excited to watch it, so I don't really know why it's took me so long to watch it! Johnny English is a spoof of James Bond. After an incident in Mozambique, English retires to a Tibetan Monastery where he is, eventually, pulled out to work for MI-7 again in solving a case where he is requested. This film is a very silly film, with slapstick comedy amongst other things but it is a feel good film that I found quite funny, however, it was not as good as the first which is usually the case with sequels. I would recommend this film if you like the first, or want to watch something lighthearted.
Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb (2014)
I am a huge fan of the Night at the Museum franchise and was sad to hear that this film would be the last. This film was the perfect ending and the perfect legacy for Robin Williams! This film was just as funny as the other films in the series. It was also based in London, which was exciting to see all the familiar places and museums in the franchise that I love. The ending (no spoilers) was the perfect ending for such a fabulous man as Robin Williams, it was bittersweet and heartwarming. I would definitely recommend this film and will definitely be buying this film when it comes out on DVD!
So that's the films of January, lets see what films i'll watch in February!
Chelsey :) x
